How can I register a uk domain name?
While you can register your own co .uk domain name directly with Nominet, it is simpler and cheaper to register domain names through a registrar that works with Nominet.
Such registrars include 1and1.co.uk (click here for more). The good thing about 1and1 is that they usually have a special offer discount on website domains or website hosting. As I write the offers include cheap .co.uk domains at £0.99 for the first year and cheap .com domain names at £0.99 for the first year. Also offers on 6 months free website hosting.
These offers change from time to time so click on the banner below to find the latest website domain name deals and web hosting deals.

Find if your chosen domain name is available using the box below. It also gives alternative suggestions. Remember to select .co.uk org.uk or your preferred second level domain name. Choose co.uk for business domains, co.uk or me.uk for personal websites and org.uk for other organizations. |

When you fill in your details to register a domain name it is important that you enter your details correctly. When your registrar asks you for the registrant or applicant’s name you need to give them your full name and address so you can be contacted. Individuals can choose not to have their details visible in Nominet's look-up information; businesses do not have this choice.

What is website hosting?
As well as a domain name you will need a website host. This is where all your pages will be stored and made available for download to a browser at all times via the internet or world wide web - "www". |

Domain names can only include letters and numbers and the hyphen (-) character. The hyphen is often used to separate words as in my-domain-name.co.uk but is not absolutely necessary . Google and other search engines can understand that mydomainname.co.uk is made up of the words "my", "domain" and "name". |
